Abstract

This paper re-examines a recent diagnosis of stroke and subsequent disability in the Franciscan friar Bernardino da Fossa (AD 1420-1503) by highlighting methodological error.It also takes the opportunity of this single case to raise general points on retrospective diagnostics.
