Knowledge Attitude Perception towards Artificial Intelligence and Robots among residents of Delhi: A cross-sectional study

Abstract

Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) combines the advances of computers or machines and informatics technologies to acquire intelligence to perform tasks that normally require human intellect (Thulasi, et al. 2022). It is an intelligence designed by humans and demonstrated by machines (Tai MC, 2020). Given the emerging incorporation of AI in daily life, researchers are keen to understand individual differences in attitudes towards AI (Sindermann, et. al. 2022). The purpose of this study was to analyse the Knowledge Attitude and Perception towards Artificial Intelligence and Robots of people of Delhi. The cross-sectional study was conducted among the 477 residents of Delhi/NCR. Both qualitative and quantitative study techniques were used to achieve the objectives of the present study. The questionnaire cum open-ended interview schedule had over 40 multiple-choice, Likert, MCQ and descriptive questions. The data was analysed using SPSS (Statistical Package for the Social Sciences). Out of total participants, 35% thought technology was difficult to grasp. Among the respondents, 52% were not aware of AI applications in our society. Meanwhile, 47% of the total respondents responded that they were afraid of technological advancements. Majority (55%) of the participants responded were not aware or were little aware of the uses of AI in society. In the current study, AI was found to be comparatively lesser known and more feared among the respondents. Many respondents were concerned about AI’s potential negative impact on interpersonal bonds and psychological well-being and expressed the opinion that its usage must be limited
