Pascasius Justus Turcq. ‘On Gambling’. William M. Barton
Main Article Content
Abstract
This edition by William Barton of Pascasius Turcq’s De alea is the first English translation of Pascasius’s work.
Both the original Latin text, first published in 1561 by Oporinus in Basel, as the English translation by Barton are put side by side on opposite pages in this book.
The work ‘On Gambling’ is divided in two parts, the first devoted to the aetiology, semiology and differential diagnosis, the second to the treatment of gambling, an addiction seen by Pascasius as a medical disease, e.g. a mental disorder, that should and may be cured.
