This article proposes to identify the common thread connecting the various contributions presented in the Congress “Domes in the world” in the search for a common denominator. Methodologically we start with a reference parameter: Vitruvius, who has the merit of first recognizing that Architecture is a “science composed of many doctrines” born from “experience” and “reason.” The second part of the article proceeds with an analysis of the context, that is the long history of architecture, and ends with an analysis of the definitions of domes, mosques, architecture, geometry, symbology, vault, systems and models, method, heritage and concrete.
